Kallie and Chris were married on June 24th, with a ceremony and reception at Elkview Lodge in Fernie, British Columbia.
On the day of the wedding, my second shooter, Duane Clemens, and I headed up the mountain to capture “getting ready” pictures of the two of them with the beautiful backdrop of Fernie and the lodge perfectly framing this magnificent couple for us.
While the ceremony was certainly touching, and the sunset portraits and dance were a blast, the most memorable moment of the whole day was when Chris surprised Kallie with a helicopter ride. Kallie had never been in a helicopter but had always wanted to go, so she was over the moon when she realized that she would get this adventure as part of her big day!
The helicopter pilot took us over to a nearby mountain with amazing views of Fernie and Elk Valley, where we set down for a few portraits to capture all of that natural beauty. On our way back to the hangar, the pilot took us past the Elkview Lodge, where all of Kallie and Chris’s family and friends were out on the lawn and decks waving to us as we flew by. To make things even more fun, the pilot made sure to do plenty of swoops and split little saddles on mountain ranges—it was like being on an awesome amusement park ride!
Those mountaintop images are among my favourites from the whole day, though the shot of them in the snow at the top of the mountain with the helicopter in the background is probably my favourite by far. It has a real feeling of story to it, I think.
Kallie and Chris, this sort of goes without saying, but I had an absolutely amazing day with you. Thank you for an unforgettable helicopter ride, but more importantly, thank you for just being the good, kind people that you are.
Thanks also to Lisa from Mountain Bride (the wedding planner). She is an especially important vendor for me because I shot her wedding about five years ago now, and I love being able to work with one of my former brides and to see her continuing to be so happy in her life and career.
