Weddings are fun, there is no doubt about it. However, from the perspective of creating beautiful portraits, you don’t always get to choose your light in the same way that you can when you are shooting an engagement session. This is one of the reasons that I love shooting them. I also kind of like the nervous energy of meeting someone for the first time after they have decided to book you – I definitely experience more nerves right before these sessions than the wedding itself, becauseI want to prove to them that they made the right decision to hire me as their photographer.
I am not going to lie – the light was magic for Karissa and DJ’s session. That didn’t hurt one little bit. That they were up for a morning session on a morning when there was fresh frost on the ground says something about their spirit of adventure. We also did a little Valley bushwacking to get to some of the spots that I wanted to use. They are having their wedding in central Alberta, so it might be hard to get Karissa into our Hiking Brides Club, but I have no doubt that if I can figure out a spot that requires some hiking that she will be game to give it a go!
