Fernie Engagement Session 68 Photography

I met up with Danielle and Kate in September for an engagement session in Fernie, BC.

I had such a wonderful time with these women, hiking, exploring and getting some beautiful portraits of the two of them and their love. Fernie is known for its raw, natural beauty and it did not disappoint for this engagement portrait session. The late afternoon light was stunning and golden- as it only can be in autumn.

Danielle and Kate were first met in May, 2011 at the Calgary Airport. Kate was moving to Calgary and a mutual friend set them up because she thought they would hit it off. Apparently, that friend was right!

Danielle wanted to propose on a backpacking trip in Algonquin Park, so she packed up the ring in her backpack as they made their way into the lakes. She recalls being very stressed out on Lake Opeongo that they would flip due to the winds and she would lose the ring. Luckily, the winds behaved and on Happy Lake that night, she snuck the ring into her pocket.

After dinner as the sun set, Danielle started telling Kate how much she loved her, and how much she meant to her.

Kate said “I think you’re going to pull out a ring or something,” making fun of Danielle’s typical cheesiness. And then, when Danielle pulled out the ring, Kate exclaimed “Is that real?!” When Danielle confirmed it was, in fact real, and proposed, Kate exclaimed yes and that was that. After their adventures in the park, they ended up going to the Chateau Montebello for a lovely retreat as Kate loves the Fairmonts.

Kate and Danielle love to watch hockey (Kate is a Leafs fan and Danielle likes the Flames and the Habs). They also are big fans of both Stranger Things and Wynonna Earp. Danielle loves to cook and Kate loves to do the dishes, so they really are the perfect couple.

I was so pleased to get to spend time with these awesome ladies. We had so much fun exploring the outdoors to take advantage of the beautiful landscape Fernie has to offer. And, of course, the engagement session wouldn’t be complete without a shot of these two in their hockey jerseys.

Kate and Danielle, thank you so much for asking me to be your engagement photographer. I was so happy to document your love.
