When you’re hiking through the trees, it’s pretty, right?  The air is cool and sweet, the colours are rich, and the winding path is alluring because you never know just what’s around the corner. But sometimes, it’s nice to get up above the trees and look down on the world.  You can get your bearings and really see where you’re going.

I think that’s a good analogy for weddings – especially this particular wedding.  Raina and Ryan have been together for many years.  They have two children and, speaking from experience, having children means that sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees.  So here they are, walking along the path in the trees, really enjoying their life, though probably with a bit of fatigue, and then they decide to get married.  This is when they climb above the trees and get the bird’s eye view of their life.  Or in actuality, they take a helicopter to get above the trees (I always say that I’m a better photographer when there’s a helicopter to be had).

A wedding creates space to make promises, reflect, reminisce, laugh, dance, and celebrate your life.  It’s a “top of the mountain” experience. We so rarely get to do that all in one day, which is what makes a wedding so special.

Raina and Ryan’s photos really give you the sense that they are perched on the top of the world, getting the bird’s eye view of their lives.  Their photos also capture how much fun and love surround them – which is something you can see no matter where you are, whether it be in the trees or on the top of the mountain.
