Megan and Jake were married in a stunning destination wedding on July 15th, with a ceremony and reception at Island Lake Lodge.

Megan had always hoped to get married at Island Lake Lodge, because she grew up in Fernie. She wanted to honour the place where she had spent so much time with her family. Jake and Megan spend a lot of time together in the mountains, so this was the perfect setting and atmosphere for their wedding.

This was my first wedding of the season at Island Lake Lodge, and I was reminded yet again of what a magical place it really is. As a Fernie wedding photographer, I am no stranger to the Island Lake Lodge, but sometimes I forget something so beautiful is just minutes from my house.

I started out the day doing some “getting ready” picture with first the ladies, and then the men before the ceremony. I was so amazed by how Jake and Megan were lovingly supporting each other. They were sweetly trading text messages all through the morning as they got ready.

One of my absolute favourite images was during this “getting ready” time when I caught Jake looking out at the mountains (the reflection through glass). It’s a quiet moment, not to mention a technically and visually interesting image that gives a sense of place and story. I’m very proud of how it turned out.

Jake and Megan exchanged gifts beforehand, and Jake’s gift had Megan absolutely convinced that she was making the right decision. Since they had decided not to get anything big or too “traditional,” he bought her the full set of Harry Potter books. This was particularly touching because Megan and her brother have been fighting over who gets to keep their shared set of books—which are currently at their parents’ house. Looks like that fight is over. Megan gave Jake the pictures from the boudoir shoot that she had done with me—and he was so excited to get to see them.

After a stunning ceremony, it was time for an awesome dance party. Everyone was into it, and the energy in the room was amazing. DJ McRae kept everything moving along really well. I especially loved the epic dance-off between a kid and one of the groomsmen. It lasted forever! The kid was really good and completely stole the show.

Megan and Jake, thanks for trusting me with your memories. I can’t wait to chase the powder with you when you come out skiing this winter!
