Paula and Theon were married on July 30th, with a ceremony and reception at Elk View Lodge in Fernie, BC.
Theon is a fighter jet pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), and his fellow pilots made a surprise sabre arch for them to pass under during the recessional at the end of the ceremony. What a neat way to tie in his job and his comrades!
Paula is a nurse and a local Fernie girl (now living in the prairies), so she wanted her wedding to be in her hometown in the mountains. The Elk View Lodge was perfect for that—and it truly fit their personalities. I saw that as they hung out with me during the portraits after the ceremony, exploring the views and spending time by the river.
These two were so easy to photograph, especially because they are so honestly in love that it bleeds through into their expressions and actions, so I rarely needed to prompt them. I especially loved when Theon swept Paula up into his arms (spontaneously) in the field, and I enjoyed capturing Paula’s adventurous side as she hiked up her dress to cool her feet in the river.
Paula & Theon, thank you so much for including me in your wedding celebrations. Even though we were only together for a few hours, your kind hearts were evident for all to see, and I was touched by the connection and respect you have for one another. Congratulations to you both!
