I love it when our couples tell us they’re up for anything on their wedding day. After shooting their engagement session in in Kananaskis Country back in March I started scouting out different spots in Golden for their wedding pictures. They gave me lots of time to shoot with them and said they were up for anything, so naturally I looked for places that were a little off the beaten path!
My day started out with some getting ready shots with Steph. While I wasn’t willing to ruin the surprise of where we were going to do their portraits, I did say it was going to be an adventure and would ensure she was inducted into our prestigious Hiking Brides Club!
We met Chris in Golden at the pedestrian bridge for their first look. He was pretty excited to see his bride!
After a few shots in town we went on our adventure exploring the bench below Kicking Horse Resort.
…and then it was time for a gondola ride! In a recent blog post for Kate & Stuart’s wedding I mentioned that Island Lake Lodge is one of our favourite places to shoot, and it’s pretty much a tie with Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. While both provide an amazing experience for guests, it is delivered in such a different way at each venue. Getting married at the Eagle Eye Restaurant is truly spectacular and provides 360 degree mountain views of the Rockies, Selkirks, and Purcells. For couples who are passionate about spending time in and on top of mountains, it’s the perfect venue!
We had planned to do some sunset portraits at some point during their reception. Some clouds had moved in during dinner and the sun had vanished, but the skies were interesting, so I suggested we go out and shoot.
…and then just like that the sun showed up and sent a beam of yellow light straight across the valley – amazing!
