Whitney and Matt were married on August 26th, with a ceremony and reception at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
Nadja and her team at the resort were fantastic as always, setting up a stunning wedding that was both the perfect romantic getaway and an amazing place for an all-out party. And I loved every minute of it.
My second shooter, Duane Clemens and I couldn’t get over how much fun this wedding was. The party was far and away one of the best ones that I have ever covered in my ten years of weddings—the dance floor was packed from the moment it started until we left just after midnight. So much fun!
Of course, the real fun is in the details, like the speech that an old family friend of Matt’s gave. It was absolutely hilarious. She stood up and delivered the driest, funniest roast I have ever heard at a wedding with the perfect delivery. The entire room was filled with a mixture of shock and guffaws; I have never heard or seen anything quite like that.
And while I am partial to a lot of the big mountain views and scenes, one of my favorite images is a smaller moment with Whitney where she was starting to spill her drink. It’s a great action shot, and it cracks me up every time I see it.
I also have to take a selfish moment to let my fan side come out. Whitney’s brother, Jordan, plays in the NHL and was one of the best players for my very favorite team, the Edmonton Oilers. Even though he was traded to the New York Islanders just before the wedding, it was still so cool to meet him. What an interesting experience—merging my fan(aticism) and my work!
Whitney & Matt, what a party! Can we go back and do it again? Thanks for hosting such a fun day and for letting me be part of capturing those memories for you.
