I am excited to get blogging again and share some of my work from the past several months (including a few weddings from last summer that I haven’t posted yet). I thought I would start with Megan and Jon’s because they are some of my favourite people and this wedding was an awesome way to put a wrap to my 2017 weddings. In addition to being their wedding photographer, I’ve had the chance to go biking AND skiing with them in the past year here in Fernie. That’s alright in my books, and I can’t wait to hit the trails with them again this summer. I am not so secretly trying to convince them to take the plunge and move to Fernie full-time.
Turns out that Island Lake Lodge in the winter is still a pretty beautiful spot! (More winter weddings at Island Lake lodge here, here and here) You would have to do a little shoveling though to go ahead with a ceremony down at I Dew Point.
I started with some shots of Jon getting ready for the day.
Then I headed over to Megan and the girls getting prepped. Mel from Sparrow for Hair did Megan’s hair and I have to say that she is pretty amazing at what she does. Leah refers to her as a ‘hair genius’. Leah and I have also shot with Mel in our portrait work, and she’s a pretty amazing model as well. You can check that shoot out here: http://decoroportraits.com/freyja-spring-fashion-shoot/ I loved Megan’s reaction (this will become a theme as you quickly see) to seeing her hair for the first time.
I’ve told you guys that Leah (my wife) does wedding makeup right? She does all of the makeup for our Decoro brand, and a few weddings each year. I’m biased, but I am also not wrong when I say that she is really good at what she does.
Megan and her mom.
Adding some bling.
Megan and Jon seeing each other for the first time.
Hard to go wrong with a backdrop like this.
There wasn’t a lot of sunshine to be found, but we did look up briefly to see this.
I love this series. We featured it prominently in their wedding album.
Here’s an enthusiastic vote for more feathers at weddings. Not everyone can pull it off but Megan definitely could.
I love it when couples aren’t afraid to deviate from traditions to add a personal touch to things. At the ceremony, Jon played the music for Megan while she walked down the aisle with her parents. So good!
We could tell that we were trapped beneath an inversion layer (cloudy below, sunny up top) because the craziest blue light was bleeding into the alpine bowls during the ceremony. I haven’t adjusted the colours here at all.
While we were waiting for the guests to filter up from cocktail hour I happened to look outside to see the mountains doing this:
